The Public Compensation Coalition is an organization of working people and their unions, supported by students, injured worker advocates, and the general public, working for restoration of balance and fairness to the workers' compensation system here in British Columbia, and to others across Canada.
The coalition is working to support and defend our publicly administered and employer funded workers' compensation system because it is the best way to keep workers safe in their workplaces, and fairly compensated in the unfortunate event of workplace illness or injury.
Whether it's educating people about the erosions to our workers' compensation system since 2001, or fighting for the restoration of loss of earnings pensions for permanently injured workers, the coalition is working to ensure that the balance formerly embodied in the Historic Compromise is restored to our workers' compensation system.
The Historic Compromise was struck here in B.C. in 1917, which resulted in the creation of our current workers' compensation system. Through that compromise, workers gave up the right to sue their employers in the case of workplace injury or death in exchange for fair compensation from an employer funded pool.
