From the mid 1990's through 2002, Workers' Compensation Board regulations protecting workers in the workplace were slowly eroded. In 2002, a further 1/3 of all safety regulations were cut, directly resulting in more dangerous workplaces. From 2000 to 2005, workplace fatalities increased from 155 to 188.
We think it's unacceptable that here in B.C. an average of 3 workers die every week, more than 3,000 workplace injuries are reported every week, and that 18 workers are permanently disabled every working day.
The Public Compensation Coalition believes that strong workplace health and safety regulations are a key part of a fair and balanced workers' compensation system.
Register your support for the coalition if you want to reverse the cuts to important regulations – regulations that help prevent injuries and illnesses in the workplace.
